PostTechnical Research has been focused on healthcare
information technology for the past several years. During that time, I
have worked on the architecture & deployment of IT systems for
regional sharing of healthcare information (RHIOs), on the
development of the architecture for practice management &
electronic healthcare records systems & on researching the
technical & sociocultural factors influencing the adoption of
technology in healthcare organizations.
In the two years since I took the position of Director of Technology
Research at the RCHN Community Health Foundation, I have written
many columns on technology for Community Health Centers, & made
a number of presentations on technology adoption & software
integration for healthcare organizations. In addition I have been
working on architectures for sharing healthcare information. I have
also begun working on a long-term project on the influence of
productivity on healthcare outcomes. Much of this work is available
on this website.
As part of the work I've been doing on architecture of healthcare
information sharing, I have reconnected with Jonathan Hare, a
visionary in healthcare & larger scale information sharing (#63 on
the FutureHealth 100 list for 2009), and have committed to be CTO
& VP, Products for Resilient Network Systems. This is a company
implementing Jonathan's vision first in healthcare information
sharing & eventually more generally. RSN is quite early, & I'll be able
to say more about it as we develop the product & the company.
More recently, I have developed (along with some colleagues) &
have been teaching a course on the architecture of large scale
software systems at MIT. I expect to continue developing & teaching
this course & well as another I'll develop on very large scale
information management.
This site will be focused on my work in HIT, as well as technology
trends & futures.
